Oaks Country Club

We went for a company Christmas party. Dinner was ordered in advance from a selected menu. The menu sounded pretty good... But the PRICES! I was a little floored at how much Shrimp Scampi and grilled chicken cost, but the company was paying so I was looking forward to decadence. The location is beautiful. Large patios with fireplaces, nuances of the 1920's when the club was established, and the staff is very professional. However, the event space was barren. Nothing on the walls, even during Christmas. There was a tree, but it almost seemed out of place with the stark lack of decor everywhere else. Once dinner arrived we were really disappointed. They offered a Caesar salad as the first course... We were brought out garden salads. The salmon was served on a mountain of mashed potatoes. The lemon dill sauce on the fish tasted great, but there definitely needed to be more for the portion of potatoes. The fish itself had a nice crust on it, but it was horribly overdone. Even with the potatoes I could still tell how dry the fish was. To my surprise, the broccoli was perfectly executed. The scampi was completely flavorless. Breading on the shrimp was clearly done well, but was soggy at the table. Dessert was either cheesecake or flourless chocolate cake... Both were bland and the chocolate was essentially dark fudge with no toppings or frosting. It was so dense I could hit my cake with my fork and it bounced, sounding like a drum. Overall, the space is beautiful and I'm sure the activities there are lovely. However, had I had to pay my own tab with the meal that I received I would have absolutely had a conversation with the chef and demanded some kind of discount or refund.
